I think I mentioned a while ago on this blog that I was taking a class in stained glass design. About 2 years ago, I bought some glass and tools from my former business partner. I've always loved the look of stained glass and since it was a good price for what she was selling, I bought it. I assumed I might be able to to learn on my own but realized I'd never actually do it unless I took a class and learned the right way. The picture in the post is my class project and my first completed stained glass design. It has a lot of flaws but overall I'm happy with it.
I'm not an artist and frankly, I'm pretty much ruled by my left brain. That being said, I still like to do creative endeavors once in a while to try to keep the right brain engaged. I enjoyed doing this project and once I'm a bit more proficient with copper foil, I think I'll take a lead came class as well. It's good for me to keep trying to do things that don't come naturally and most things that involve artistic ability do not come naturally for me. Still, there's a sense of accomplishment when you finish something and though this project didn't turn out perfect, I know the things I need to improve. Maybe even more important, I can now look at other stained glass work with a perspective I didn't have before and, for me, I think that's always the greatest benefit of doing something new.

WOW! That is a really nice stained glass design for a first timer (Or so I would think). I've wanted to try this as well, but, have not taken the time to look into a class.
I am a right brained person for the most part, so, while crafty, I haven't tried the art of stained glass yet. I should check that out this winter! :)
Thanks Vixen. It was actually pretty relaxing though I was lucky to have most of the supplies already when I started because some of the stuff, like grinders and cutters, can get pretty expensive. I did really well on cutting the glass itself and for this project I experimented with a number of different types of glass so I could see how they all cut. The thing I need to improve on the most is soldering but it just takes practice.
Anyway, thanks for the compliment. Now I've got to work on something for the holidays.
Nice job on the glass, man. Good to see you doing something creative. Now, if you could only abandon your career for a life devoted to art. Ah, now that is fun, lemme tell you. ...ugh.
Also, I seem to have run out of condoms. Could you fashion me one in stained glass? Don't forget the tiny, yet colorful and shimmering, "receptacle end."
Don, that's gorgeous! It's a rather intricate process from what I understand, so you have to kind of see it all ahead of time. I have no aptitude in this department at all and love to see what other people come up with. And it's cool that you had some fun cultivating the sleeping creative side a little.
Mando - Thanks for the kudos. This was a pattern but for me the hardest part is the colors because I'm not artistic so I don't really see things this way. Hence the reason to do it. I need to wake up that side of me.
Boring - Thanks. I'll work on that condom for you. I'll use a beveled receptacle end "for her pleasure."
OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!
Geez, you guys are excellent birth control, you know that?
ow, ow, ow, ow...
MM
Mando - My face alone has stopped more sex than you can imagine.
"I can now look at other stained glass work with a perspective I didn't have before..."
