You Can Call Me Dan

A lot of people call me Dan. They always have. Not so much in grade school when teachers had printouts with your name on them but ever since then. Sometimes I correct people, sometimes I don't. I think it's an interesting phenomenon. I mean, they remember that my name begins with a "D." They even get the right number of letters and the same basic sound with an "N" at the end. But for some reason the vowel really gives people trouble. Perhaps it's because "A" is more common than "O" or maybe it's just that Dan is more common than Don. I think it's a bit of laziness though. I don't always remember the name of a person I've met but if I don't remember, I don't try to fake it. I think that's a bit more rude than just acknowledging that I don't remember. Still, being called Dan isn't so bad. The ones that really drive me crazy are the people whose parents never taught them to properly enunciate and who insist on calling me Dawn.

Onto another quick, mindless rant. I cannot stand people who either enter or exit a store, particularly a grocery or department store with wide doors, by walking right through the middle of the door as if no one else exists. Pick a side please. If you are exiting there is a chance, albeit slight, that someone else might actually want to enter. I hate these assholes.

lol
I get Jeannie a lot. No "a" but it makes it into the pronunciation nonetheless.

I have a hard time seeing you as a Dan. In fact, hm, do I know any Dans? OH wait, I do. But, you're not him.

I'm only Dan when I'm online trying to meet underage girls...or in public bathrooms trying to meet senators. Just kidding F.B.I!

It's funny that you hate it when people call you 'Dawn' because my friend Dawn gets annoyed when people call her 'Don.' There really is a distinction between the two, but those peole without a Don or a Dawn in their life don't hear it.
